The Forged Signature And The Estate Attorney Who Turned One Cruel Eviction Into A Criminal Case

Vivian held the document where everyone could see it. It was a quitclaim deed filed only three weeks earlier, supposedly transferring my house to my sister, Delaney. But the signature beside my name was forged. The handwriting was wrong, and the date on the document placed me two hours away, working a double shift. Vivian’s voice remained calm as she explained that the county recorder had already been notified. This wasn’t a family dispute. It was a potential felony.

 

 

 

My mother’s confident expression disappeared. Delaney dropped her keys, while my father stared at the deed as though he had suddenly realized their plan had trapped them instead. Then Vivian turned toward me and asked whether I wanted to handle everything quietly or press charges. I thought about the years of being treated like the family’s burden, the money they had controlled, and the moving truck sitting outside my home. Most of all, I thought about the forged signature. I finally understood that they hadn’t simply tried to take advantage of me. They had taken a step that could change all our lives. I looked at Vivian and gave her my answer.
