The mother looked exhausted when she arrived at the hotel with her three restless children. I could tell she had already spent hours dealing with airports, luggage, delays, and everything else that comes with traveling with a family. As I prepared the bathroom for them, I noticed something that made me pause. One of the shampoo bottles looked slightly less full than it should have been. It wasn’t obviously empty or damaged, but something about it made me wonder whether it had been used before.
I didn’t want to assume anything, so I politely asked whether she’d like a fresh bottle. I immediately brought her a new, sealed one. Her reaction caught me completely off guard. She looked genuinely relieved and thanked me several times. It was such a tiny detail, but I suddenly realized that to an exhausted traveler, a fresh bottle of shampoo could mean much more than just shampoo.
