A few weeks ago, I started looking for simple ways to make my home feel a little safer at night. I didn’t want expensive equipment or complicated alarms—just something inexpensive that could tell me if someone had been messing with the door while I was asleep or away. That was when I came across an unusual suggestion involving something almost everyone already has in the kitchen: aluminum foil.
The idea sounded almost too simple to be useful. Before going to bed, you wrap a tight layer of foil around the outside door handle, making sure it stays in place. If someone grabs or turns the handle, the foil should become wrinkled, torn, or displaced. It can also make a noticeable crinkling sound when touched. I decided to try it myself, but the following morning, when I walked toward the front door, I immediately noticed something that made me stop.
