She had waited long enough. For weeks, her husband had been coming home later and later, always with another excuse. Tonight, she sat alone at the kitchen table, staring at the clock and feeling her patience disappear with every passing minute. When he finally walked through the door, she decided she would not argue. Instead, she wrote a note and left it on the dresser: “I’ve had enough and have left you. Don’t bother coming after me.” But she had no intention of actually leaving. She slipped under the bed, pulled herself into the darkness, and waited to see what he would do when he thought she was gone.
A few minutes later, she heard his footsteps approaching. He entered the bedroom, picked up the note, and stood silently reading it. She held her breath, expecting him to panic, call her name, or perhaps chase after her. Instead, he calmly reached for a pen. He wrote something on the note, picked up his phone, and dialed a number. Then she heard him say words that made her blood run cold.
