The Delivery Driver Who Saved My Son…2

Megan was waiting downstairs when we entered. She smiled and asked why we were home so early. When I demanded to know where our son was, she calmly said he was upstairs sleeping. I rushed to the nursery and found him lying motionless in his crib. His cheeks were flushed, his mouth slightly open, and when I lifted him, his body felt strangely heavy against me. There was no squirming or crying. He barely responded at all. Panic took over as I carried him downstairs.

Megan followed us, suddenly desperate to stop us from leaving. She insisted we were frightening him by taking him to the hospital and tried to explain away the situation. But the medicine bottles were already in the trash, and her pharmacy bag was sitting among them. We ignored her protests and drove straight to the emergency room. Doctors immediately began monitoring our son’s vital signs and running tests. Hours later, the results confirmed our worst fear: he had been exposed to a sedating medication. The hospital contacted police, and Megan was questioned the following day.

Under questioning, Megan’s story eventually collapsed. She admitted that she had been giving our son small amounts of medication whenever he resisted his naps. She wanted him to sleep because a sleeping toddler was easier for her to manage. She had repeated the behavior while sending us cheerful photographs that made everything look perfectly normal. The pictures we had once treasured suddenly became horrifying reminders of how completely we had trusted the wrong person.

Then we learned exactly why Andre had left that warning. He had seen Megan carrying a bag toward the trash and noticed a medicine bottle fall from it. He watched her quickly retrieve and hide it, and something about the scene made him suspicious. He didn’t know what was happening inside our home, but he knew enough to realize something could be seriously wrong. Because our Ring microphone was broken, he couldn’t simply speak to us through the camera. So he improvised, using cardboard and a marker to deliver the only warning he could.

Our son eventually recovered, but the experience changed our family permanently. For weeks, we watched him closely, terrified whenever he became sleepy. We locked away every medication and rebuilt our sense of safety slowly. A month later, another package arrived. Andre appeared on our repaired Ring camera, placed the box down, and looked directly into the lens. This time, we could finally hear him. “I hope the little guy is doing okay,” he said. Ryan pressed the intercom and answered, “He is—because of you.” Andre smiled quietly and walked away. For months, we had thought of him as the delivery driver who kept silently staring at our camera. In the end, he was the person who refused to remain silent when our son needed someone to notice.
