When Emma bought a beautiful new set of white cotton sheets, she could hardly wait to put them on her bed. They were perfectly folded, smelled fresh from the package, and felt crisp beneath her fingers. She had always assumed that something sealed in plastic and sold as “new” was automatically clean. That evening, however, her mother noticed the unopened package on the bed and asked a simple question: “You aren’t sleeping on those tonight, are you?”
Emma laughed. Her mother explained that new sheets often travel through factories, warehouses, trucks, and stores before reaching a bedroom. They may carry finishing agents, excess dye, dust, and other residues from manufacturing. Emma decided to wash them before making the bed. But when she opened the package to check the care label, she noticed something unexpected tucked beneath the folded sheets. It was a small paper card with handwriting on it—and the message made her stop immediately.
