When Emma bought a beautiful new set of white cotton sheets, she could hardly wait to put them on her bed. They were perfectly folded, smelled fresh from the package, and felt crisp beneath her fingers. She had always assumed that something sealed in plastic and sold as “new” was automatically clean.
