My ex-husband’s new wife took the seat my son had reserved for me at his graduation

Nora Hartwell arrived at her son Lucas’s graduation expecting to sit in the second row, exactly where he had asked her to be. Instead, a young usher nervously told her that the reserved seats had been reassigned. When Nora looked toward Row B, she saw Bianca, her ex-husband Preston’s new wife, sitting in her place wearing a striking cobalt-blue dress. One of Nora’s official seat cards had been torn in half. Bianca smiled and told her that Preston’s donation had earned them priority seating.

Then she added, cruelly, “His mother can watch from the back.” Nora refused to create a scene and quietly walked beneath the EXIT sign with her sister June. But she noticed something strange about Lucas. When he entered the auditorium, he looked directly at her, then toward a friend working in the audiovisual booth. The expression on his face wasn’t disappointment. It was determination. And Nora had no idea what he had planned.
