It claims the family searched everywhere for me and finally decided I had disappeared somewhere in Europe.” I paused long enough for the whispers to spread. “I live three hours away. I paid for the flowers decorating this room, and the deposit on this ballroom came from inheritance money my parents stole from me.”
My father jumped to his feet, his face burning with anger. “Turn that off!” he shouted. “This is a private family matter!” I met his glare without moving. “It stopped being private the moment you lied to a court.” The next slide faded onto the screen, revealing the document that changed everything, and the entire room leaned forward to see it.
