Is It Better to Leave the Bathroom Door Open or Closed After Taking a Shower or Bath? 2

If children or pets make leaving the bathroom door open unsafe, keeping the door closed does not mean moisture has to remain trapped. Running the exhaust fan for around 30 to 60 minutes after a shower can help remove excess humidity and protect the room from long-term damage.

Other small steps can also improve moisture control. Opening a window when possible, wiping down wet walls, and hanging towels and bath mats so they can fully dry all reduce the amount of water remaining in the bathroom environment.

These actions may seem minor, but repeating them after every shower creates a healthier routine. Consistent ventilation helps prevent mold growth, protects bathroom materials, and keeps indoor air fresher. A few extra minutes of airflow each day can save time, money, and effort by preventing larger problems before they begin.
