Is It Better to Leave the Bathroom Door Open or Closed After Taking a Shower or Bath?

After a hot shower, the bathroom may seem clean and harmless, but the steam left behind can create hidden problems. When the door is closed immediately, warm humid air becomes trapped, allowing moisture to settle on walls, grout, paint, and other surfaces. Over time, this can encourage mold, mildew, and unpleasant musty smells.

 

 

A simple habit can make a major difference. Leaving the bathroom door open after showering allows the moisture to escape, while an exhaust fan helps remove humid air before it damages surfaces. Better airflow can also reduce the spread of airborne mold particles that may bother people with allergies or asthma. However, when safety requires the door to stay closed, another solution is needed.
