For more than fifteen years, Wendy Auger of Rochester, New Hampshire, drove around with a simple joke attached to the back of her car. Her vanity license plate, “PB4WEGO,” was a playful reference to a phrase familiar to parents everywhere: “Pee before we go.” What started as a small family joke became a recognizable part of her daily life, bringing smiles from other drivers and serving as a humorous reminder before any long trip.

The plate had never caused problems, complaints, or controversy. It was simply a harmless expression of family humor. That changed when Wendy received an unexpected letter from the New Hampshire Division of Motor Vehicles informing her that she had to surrender the plate immediately. According to the department, the combination of letters and numbers was considered inappropriate because it referenced bodily functions. A joke she had displayed peacefully for years was suddenly labeled unacceptable, leaving Wendy shocked and determined to challenge the decision.
