How to Properly Use Cabinets Above Your Fridge 2

The space above the refrigerator works best for storing items that are only used occasionally. Small appliances such as blenders, mixers, food processors, waffle makers, or slow cookers fit well there, along with baking sheets, cutting boards, roasting pans, cooling racks, and extra pot lids. Keeping these larger items overhead leaves everyday cookware within easy reach in lower cabinets.

Storage baskets, bins, and labeled containers make the cabinet much more functional. Rather than placing loose items at the back where they’re forgotten, grouping similar products together allows you to remove everything at once. This simple system makes it easier to find what you need while preventing clutter from building up over time.

You can also maximize the cabinet’s height by adding adjustable shelves or stackable organizers. Many overhead cabinets have unused vertical space that can hold backup paper towels, bulk pantry items, oversized cereal boxes, seasonal serving dishes, holiday platters, table linens, or extra kitchen towels. Layering the storage makes every inch useful without making the cabinet feel overcrowded.

Although it’s often dismissed as “dead space,” the cabinet above the refrigerator can become one of the hardest-working areas in the kitchen. With thoughtful organization and the right storage accessories, it helps reduce clutter, improve efficiency, and create a cleaner, more organized cooking space. What was once an ignored cabinet can quietly become an essential part of a well-designed kitchen, proving that even the most awkward spaces can serve an important purpose.
