How to Properly Use Cabinets Above Your Fridge 2

The space above the refrigerator is best reserved for items used only occasionally. Small appliances such as blenders, food processors, or stand mixers fit well there, along with baking sheets, cutting boards, pot lids, roasting pans, and other bulky kitchen accessories. Since these items are not needed every day, storing them higher keeps lower cabinets available for everyday essentials.

Storage baskets and bins make the cabinet far more practical. Instead of placing loose items toward the back where they become difficult to reach, grouping similar products into labeled containers allows everything to be removed at once. This approach reduces clutter and prevents forgotten items from collecting dust in hard-to-see corners.

Adding adjustable shelves or stackable organizers can also maximize the cabinet’s height. Many overhead cabinets have unused vertical space that can easily hold extra paper towels, bulk food purchases, oversized cereal boxes, seasonal serving dishes, holiday cookware, or neatly folded table linens. Layering the storage makes better use of every inch while keeping everything organized.

Although the cabinet sits out of everyday reach, it can become one of the hardest-working storage areas in the kitchen when given a specific purpose. By storing infrequently used items, organizing them into containers, and making use of vertical space, you create a cleaner and more efficient kitchen. What once seemed like an inconvenient, forgotten cabinet becomes a valuable extension of your storage system, helping keep countertops, drawers, and lower cabinets neat and clutter-free every day.
