The Simple Bed-Making Trick 2

Home experts recommend placing the decorative or patterned side of the top sheet facing downward when first laying it on the mattress. Although this may seem backward, it makes sense once the bed is finished. After adding the quilt, comforter, or duvet, fold the top edge of the sheet back over the bedding. This reveals the decorative side, creating a crisp, layered look that gives the bed a professionally styled appearance.

For an even more refined finish, fold the top of the sheet down one or two inches over the comforter before folding both layers back together once more. This extra step adds depth and symmetry while helping the bedding stay neatly in place. Combined with smooth sheets and evenly spread blankets, the result is a bed that looks fresh and inviting every day.

Pillows also play an important role in achieving a hotel-inspired look. Many people use two sleeping pillows with pillowcases matching the sheets and another set that coordinates with the duvet or comforter. Adding a decorative throw pillow and a soft blanket at the foot of the bed introduces texture, warmth, and a welcoming touch, especially in guest rooms.

Although many people now skip the top sheet altogether for convenience, the traditional layered approach remains a favorite for creating an elegant appearance. Whether you prefer a minimalist style or a classic hotel-inspired setup, taking a few extra moments to smooth the bedding, fold the sheet correctly, and arrange the pillows can make your bedroom feel more organized, relaxing, and comfortable. Often, it is the smallest details that create the biggest difference in how a room looks and feels.
