The Café Cruelty

The café was filled with the familiar sounds of midday: coffee machines hissing, cups clinking, and quiet conversations blending together. I had stopped there hoping for a peaceful lunch before returning to a stressful workday. Near the window, I noticed a young mother struggling with a crying baby. Her tired eyes and trembling movements showed how exhausted she was, yet she kept trying to calm her child while her own meal sat untouched.

Most people noticed but chose to look away. I did the same, convincing myself it wasn’t my place to interfere. Then a sharply dressed man nearby suddenly stood up and approached her table. His angry voice cut through the room as he demanded that she control her baby or leave. The mother froze, embarrassed and ready to escape, while everyone remained silent. Then, a fist struck an empty table…
