I didn’t argue with Eric or try to force him out myself. Instead, I called the police and showed them the deed proving I owned both the apartment and the entire building. Within minutes, Eric was ordered to leave and warned not to return without my permission.
My father later challenged my grandfather’s decision in court. He claimed Grandpa wasn’t capable of making the transfer. The records proved otherwise, and the judge dismissed the case immediately.
Life slowly settled after that. Eric and Shannon found another place to live. My mother eventually reached out again, while my father kept his distance.
Years later, another apartment became available in the building. I even offered Eric and Shannon a discounted rent as family. They declined, so I rented it to another family instead.
That family meeting taught me something I will never forget. My father believed authority came from making loud decisions.
My grandfather knew that real ownership had already been placed in the right hands.
