Serena Williams reacts after finding cotton plant in her hotel

Serena Williams Criticizes NYC Hotel Décor Choice

Serena Williams has raised concerns about the décor at a New York City hotel after noticing what appeared to be a cotton plant displayed in one of its corridors. The tennis legend took to Instagram to share her discomfort, sparking conversation online.

Williams, 44, is currently in the city to support the launch of Kim Kardashian’s NikeSKIMS collection. During her stay, she spotted the decoration and questioned the choice in an Instagram Story. “Alright everyone—how do we feel about cotton as decoration? Personally, for me, it doesn’t feel great,” she remarked.

The sight of the display seemed to strike a personal chord. Cotton has deep historical associations in the United States, and Williams hinted that seeing it in a hotel setting felt unsettling and inappropriate.

Even after realizing the plant was artificial, her reaction did not soften. She examined the piece closely, commenting that it felt like “nail polish remover cotton,” but still expressed discomfort at its presence.

The moment quickly gained traction, with fans debating whether the hotel’s design team had overlooked the cultural sensitivity of the choice. Some supported Williams’ view, while others suggested it was harmless décor.

The incident occurred during a busy week for Williams, who has been celebrating Kardashian’s new line alongside sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson and gymnast Jordan Chiles. She appeared at multiple events promoting the collaboration.

Williams also attended a private fashion dinner with Kardashian and her sister Khloé, where she was photographed raising a glass in celebration of the brand’s success. Her presence highlighted her ongoing influence beyond the tennis world.

In a separate Instagram post, Williams hinted at recent struggles, describing August as a “difficult” month. The cryptic message, paired with her reaction at the hotel, suggests she has been navigating both personal and professional challenges.
