Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth announced Friday that the Pentagon is moving to a \u201cwartime footing,\u201d emphasizing that the U.S. is prepared to respond swiftly if adversaries \u201cFAFO\u201d \u2014 short for \u201cf*ck around and find out.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hegseth outlined plans to revamp procurement, testing, and weapons readiness to ensure rapid deployment of modern systems. \u201cWe\u2019re not building for peacetime; we are pivoting the Pentagon and industrial base to a wartime footing \u2014 building for victory should our adversaries FAFO,\u201d he said. He criticized bureaucratic delays, noting many systems remain stuck in maintenance or awaiting parts, and pledged to streamline testing, accelerate production, and retire outdated legacy equipment.<\/p>\n

The initiative introduces \u201cportfolio scorecards\u201d to measure how quickly weapons can reach active units, prioritizing speed and combat readiness.
