The following morning, Aaron arrived at Diana’s house with flowers and a promise to change. He asked me to return home with Henry and the girls. He promised to attend marriage counseling, become more involved with the children, and never again allow suspicion to control his decisions. I listened without interrupting. Part of me still loved him, but another part remembered lying in that hospital bed, recovering from childbirth while my husband accused me of betraying him. I reminded him that I had offered a paternity test immediately, yet he had chosen to walk away.<\/p>\n
Aaron began crying. He admitted that his obsession with having a son had affected our marriage for years. He had been disappointed after each daughter’s birth, and I had gradually learned to ignore my own feelings to keep him happy. I told him that having Henry should never have required me to sacrifice my peace or self-respect. I wasn’t ready to make a decision about our marriage. I wanted time, counseling, and genuine change. Aaron finally understood that an apology could begin the healing process, but it could not erase the pain overnight.<\/p>\n
