Sheldon slid a folder across the desk. Inside was a formal job offer: operations manager, a substantial salary increase, health insurance, and training in purchasing and logistics. I read it twice. But the position also came with responsibilities I had never handled before. I asked Sheldon why he hadn’t simply spoken to me. He lowered his eyes and admitted that he thought he needed proof. He had forgotten that I deserved honesty. Georgia watched him carefully, waiting to see how he would respond. It meant trusting myself to learn, lead, and make mistakes without giving up. On Monday, I returned to Sheldon’s office and accepted the position on one condition: no more secret tests. Sheldon agreed, and Georgia grinned from the doorway. For the first time, I felt that the future might be something I could choose rather than something I simply had to survive.<\/p>\n
