Michael pushed his letter away and demanded to know why Walt had rewarded Danny while leaving him and Stephanie with so little. I explained that their father had not made the decision lightly. For years, they had missed hospital visits and ignored calls, while Danny welcomed me into his cramped home without asking for money or praise. Walt had watched his youngest son rearrange his life to care for us, and the trust was his way of recognizing that devotion. The letters were not written to humiliate anyone; they were meant to make the truth impossible to avoid.<\/p>\n
Then I told them what Walt had kept secret. Before his death, he had sold his business for four million dollars. The financial collapse they believed had ruined us was a story he allowed to stand because he wanted to learn who would help when they thought there was nothing left to inherit. Michael and Stephanie looked stunned, then angry, insisting that their father had manipulated them. Danny seemed less pleased than frightened, worried that the revelation would destroy what remained of his relationship with his siblings. Later, he told me he wanted to use the trust carefully: pay off debts, buy a modest home with Kayla, and eventually open a repair shop. He had never wanted a fortune; he wanted stability and a chance to build a life of his own. They had never asked what I needed, but they had decided what they deserved. I reminded them that the money was not a prize for being the favorite child; it was a decision Walt made after years of watching our actions. Their anger did not change the reasons for it.<\/p>\n
