When the flight attendant passed our row, she noticed how tightly I was pressed against the window. She quietly asked if everything was all right, and I almost gave my usual answer. A few minutes later, Josh stood up and headed toward the restroom. The moment he disappeared, the flight attendant returned and offered me an empty aisle seat two rows behind us. I accepted immediately, gathered my handbag, and moved before I could talk myself out of it. For the first time in hours, I could stretch my legs without someone invading my space.

When Josh returned, he stopped beside his empty seat and looked around. Then he spotted me sitting comfortably behind him. His face tightened, and he marched toward my new seat. “What the hell did you do?” he demanded loudly enough for nearby passengers to turn around.

I looked up at him calmly. “I asked you several times to respect my space. You refused, so I spoke to the flight attendant.” He started accusing me of exaggerating, insisting he had done nothing wrong. Before I could respond, the gentleman sitting beside my new seat spoke up. “I watched the whole thing. She was more patient with you than most people would have been.” Josh’s expression changed instantly, but what happened next surprised me even more.
