Rosalind followed me to the car, and I expected a fight. Instead, she was crying, and this time it was not an act. She told me what I had been too angry to see. The eight hundred dollars every month, the property taxes, even the mortgage help had never been for Mom. For three years, Mom had quietly passed my money to Rosalind. My sister had lost a pregnancy, then her job, then her marriage, and she had been drowning in shame.
