The two moving trucks were mostly theater, and I knew it before I arrived. The refrigerator, washer, television, leather sofa, dining set, and bedroom furniture disappeared into two trucks while Philippa screamed from the porch and Desmond recorded every second on his phone. The neighbors watched without speaking, and I loaded nearly nineteen thousand dollars of movable property while leaving eighty-five thousand dollars of renovations behind.
