The courtroom was silent except for the buzz of fluorescent lights. Eight months pregnant, Emma Caldwell stood beside her attorney, prepared to surrender the house, savings, cars, and business shares just to escape Daniel. Across the aisle, Daniel sat beside Vanessa Price, the woman he had brought into Emma\u2019s home while she attended prenatal appointments. Vanessa smiled as though she had already won.
