The whistleblower, a longtime Democratic staffer on the House Intelligence Committee, alleges that Schiff authorized the leaking of classified intelligence during the Trump\u2013Russia investigation to politically damage then-President Donald Trump. According to the whistleblower\u2019s FBI statements beginning in 2017, Schiff allegedly told committee staff that \u201cthe group would leak classified information derogatory to President Trump\u201d and that such leaks could be used to \u201cindict\u201d him.
