Three years after my husband Thomas died, grief had settled into a quieter rhythm. I still woke reaching across the bed for him, still sometimes placed two coffee mugs on the counter, but I had learned to live with the ache. My mornings were sacred. Before sunrise, I brewed coffee, wrapped myself in Thomas\u2019s old knitted cardigan, and sat on the porch listening to autumn leaves rustle in the wind. Then, one October morning, I opened the front door and froze. A large wooden crate sat in the middle of my porch. There was no delivery label, no return address, and no explanation. Only two words were written across the top in elegant handwriting: For Margaret.<\/strong><\/p>\n
